The Milestones Prayer

The Milestones PrayerSometimes, in the early days of motherhood, when it feels like we spend our whole day saying things like, “Don’t you want to sit on the potty?,” we just need a funny reminder that these stubborn toddlers will get there eventually! And sometimes, we need our parents to help remind us that we eventually mastered these tasks as well.

So I hope you can laugh a little while you read this! (Side note: this is in no way meant to be a commentary on when kids do or don’t need intervention for these things.)

God grant me the brain cells to remember
That kids will potty train in their own time
That they will talk when they want to
That they will eat solids when they’re ready
And not a moment before

That they will sleep train when the time is right
They will walk when it feels good to them
They will quit trying to get in your bed
When they darn well please

They will transition to a toddler bed
They will stop drinking formula or nursing
They will learn to sit up and crawl
When their baby brains tell them to

They will say Mama or Dada
They will stop throwing food off their tray
They will quit crying every time you get in the car
When they feel ready

They won’t go to college in diapers
They won’t move out still crying for mom at 2am
They won’t get married and still fling broccoli on the walls
But they just might have kids of their own
And need you to remember
