There’s more to Girl Scouts than just cookies! Since 1912, Girl Scouts has been a driving force in introducing girls to the outdoors and building courage, confidence, and character along the way. It’s because of this legacy that Girl Scouts of Southern Appalachians offers summer camp programming for rising 2nd-12th graders at Camp Tanasi.

Camp Tanasi, perched on scenic Norris Lake in Andersonville, TN, is 461 acres of beautiful, wooded property with cabins and tents, dining hall, a waterfront program area, pool, archery, hiking trails, and a climbing tower.

Attending summer camp is a great way to build new skills, make new friends, and develop a deep appreciation for nature. No matter their age nor how long they stay, camp gives girls the opportunity to grow, explore, and have fun. Girls can sign up for a 5 or 6-day program that centers on a particular theme or attend camp for up to three weeks as part of a Counselor-in-Training program. Dates: June 23rd through June 28th, 2024

Expanding Horizons is a weeklong summer camp for high school students at Maryville College that examines cultural and historical perspective of the Christian faith through an Appalachian lens. Throughout the week, students strengthen their leadership skills through fun activities such as low ropes courses and Mountain Challenge‘s Alpine Tower, while also partaking in small group discussions about faith and leadership with current Maryville College students who serve as mentors. Students also study religion and theology with college faculty each morning, allowing them a unique opportunity to engage with their faith in a different context; no questions are off-limits in the classroom! In the evenings, students will work with staff and mentors in leading a worship service for the group to feed the spirit and reflect on their journeys that week. In every moment, students are living in community on Maryville College’s campus or exploring Appalachia.
