My Mommy Jewelry

We all have that one special thing that reminds of us of someone important in our life.  Maybe it’s a favorite song, a perfume–or even something tangible, a keepsake, if you will.  Well, my granny had a silhouette charm bracelet that she always wore on special occasions.  And by special occasion, I mean, any family dinner, baby shower, wedding, or church event.

I remember as a little girl asking to see her bracelet every time she had it on.  I was mildly obsessed with it–the way it was light and delicate even with 6 charms, but would jangle when she moved her arm.  Each charm was in the shape of either a boy or girl silhouette and engraved on the back was the child’s name and birth date.  I loved my charm best of all (sorry cousins).  Before I was born, none of the girls in the family had the silhouette with the ponytail, but that was the only one my parents could find.  So, while all the others looked very similar, mine stood out.

About a decade ago, my granny moved into a nursing home due to Alzheimer’s. As my mother and her siblings were preparing my granny’s house to sell, I was asked if I wanted anything.  One of the items I took was my charm from her bracelet.  I brought it home and purchased a bracelet and started wearing my charm for special occasions.

Since 2009 with my charm leading the way, I’ve added three additional charms, one for each of my children.  The bracelet is full…for now.  I hope some day to be able to add additional silhouettes of my grandchildren, maybe even having enough for their own separate bracelet.

Do you have a special keepsake from a loved one?  Do you have any mommy/grandmother jewelry?  I’d love to hear about them in the comments.

  1. That’s so sweet! I have a few ring and necklace that were my grandmothers that I love and that I’m looking forward to letting my daughter start wearing too!

  2. This is precious! I remember having my own silhouette charm on my charm bracelet when I was younger. Now I’m going to have to dig it out and start a new one and add one for my daughter!

    • Brooke,
Thank you for your comment. I’m so glad this reminded you of your charm. I really love my bracelet and I need to wear it a lot more than I do.

  3. Can anyone tell me where I can find these silhouette charms? My mother passed away last year at 103 she had five children, and 11 grandchildren. When we found her charm bracelet with five large heads representing her children and small Silhouette head charms representing the grandchildren we realized three were missing
