Winter Trip to Winterplace Ski Resort

0

Winter is here which means it’s time to hit the slopes! We recently had the chance to check out Winterplace in Ghent, West Virginia. It was an ideal spot for beginners as well as more experienced skiers.

WinterplaceWe started the day off with private ski lessons for the first two hours of the day. We had a great instructor who was very patient even with the rainy conditions. Once we had our lessons we decided to go a step up after several runs and the kids loved it.

Ski lessonsOur family had the best time at Winterplace. It is the most accessible and affordable ski resort in the Southeast. It’s perfect for beginners learning the ropes and seasoned skiers to level up. With over 90 skiable acres, 100% snowmaking, 27 trails, terrain parks, and 10 lifts, there’s something for everyone.

Winterplace Snowtubing

Winterplace is also home to West Virginia’s largest snow tubing with 14 lanes of pure fun! No wonder it earned top honors in the 2025 USA TODAY 10BEST awards for Best Ski School and Best Snow Tubing. A perfect winter getaway from December through March! From Knoxville it is only a 3.5 hour drive so very accessible for us East Tennesseans.

Ski lessonsWinterplace does not have lodging accomodations on site, but there are plenty of places to stay nearby. We stayed at The Resort at Glade Springs, and it didn’t disappoint. It has a huge leisure center where you can go bowling, play laser tag, have fun at the arcade, play basketball, ping pong, or tennis. They also have a movie theater to watch movies, an indoor pool, and their very own escape rooms.

Glade SpringsWinterplace also offers some great programs and deals during the winter season!

Over 20 years ago, I moved to Knoxville and fell in love with the city that has now truly become my home. Shortly after moving here, I married my college sweetheart, and when not working we set out to travel as much as we could. After working as a financial manager for six years, I welcomed my first son in 2010 and began a journey as a stay-at-home mom. Two years later we added another baby boy to make us a family of four. In June 2016, we welcomed our third son. I founded Knoxville Moms in November 2013 which began my career as a work-from-home mom, and it grew to the expansion of Chattanooga Moms in March 2016. We welcomed our first girl in November 2017 making us a family of six. In June 2021, I became the co-owner of the Atlanta Mom website, and in March 2022 I became the owner of the Nashville Moms parenting website. When I'm not carpooling the kids to sports and activities, you can find me enjoying a cup of coffee, reading a good book, and dreaming about my toes in the sand. I enjoy meeting new people and connecting the moms of Knoxville, Chattanooga, Atlanta, and Nashville.
