Plan Ahead: Five Flights To Catch For Fall BreakWhile it’s only just July and most families are still enjoying the excitement of summer break and summer vacations, back to school shopping and the first day of school will be here before we know it.

One thing that can make this transition a little easier is to have something planned that your family can look forward to in the upcoming months — more specifically for fall break. While there are a lot of exciting things happening in the area before fall break — I’m looking forward to the Great Smoky Mountains Hot Air Balloon Festival in August and the Smoky Mountain Air Show in September — October is a great month to visit numerous destinations around the country.

Here are five fall break vacation ideas, all of which are accessible with just a quick, nonstop flight from Knoxville’s McGhee Tyson Airport (TYS):

  1. Anywhere in Florida

    • Did you know that TYS has nonstop flights to more than 10 cities in the Sunshine state? From Destin (on Allegiant) to Miami (on American Airlines), there are vacation cities galore, all just one flight away. And October is a great time to visit, with an average temperature high of only 84 degrees.
  2. Phoenix

    • The Wild Wild West would make for a very memorable fall break vacation. Allegiant has nonstop flights into Phoenix Sky Harbor, which is a short drive from Sedona, the Grand Canyon, and many more natural attractions.
  3. Boston

    • The fall is a perfect time to visit Boston and the New England area. There’s always something going on in the city, and the fall foliage in New England is hard to beat (second to the GSMNP, of course). Allegiant has nonstop flights from TYS to Boston Logan Airport (BOS).
  4. Denver

  5. New York

    • It’s always a good time to visit the Big Apple! With cooler temperatures and beautiful city views, your fall break would be one for the memory books in NYC! Allegiant has nonstop flights to Newark, and Delta Air Lines has nonstop flights into La Guardia. Again, multiple options.

Insider tip: Some airlines, Allegiant for example, offer cheaper fares if you book at the airport ticket counter instead of online. I’ve saved an average of $250 a trip by booking at TYS with Allegiant!

By no means am I trying to rush summer break and the first months of school, but I hope this reminds you that fall break is just around the corner. Plan a fun family vacation that your family will love and will provide a relaxing break from the school year.

Anyone already have a fall break trip planned? Where are you heading?

I am a local public relations professional by day, but my most important titles are ‘Mom’ to my rainbow baby, Clayton, and ‘Wife’, to my high school sweetheart, Louis. I have worked at McGhee Tyson Airport in the public relations department for the past ten years. I manage the airport’s website and social media accounts, but what I love most about my job is the ability to help passengers have a safe and enjoyable experience at TYS. After becoming a mom, it became even more important for me to share travel tips and ‘mom-hacks’ that make traveling with children seamless, stress-free, and maybe even fun! As a born-and-raised East Tennessean, I am a fan of (orange!) all-things Knoxville. I love seeing our area continue to grow by offering unique, memorable experiences for all ages and interests. When I’m not singing a Blippi song that’s stuck in my head or kicking around a soccer ball with my son, you can find me traveling, reading, or reading about travel.
