While it’s only just July and most families are still enjoying the excitement of summer break and summer vacations, back to school shopping and the first day of school will be here before we know it.
One thing that can make this transition a little easier is to have something planned that your family can look forward to in the upcoming months — more specifically for fall break. While there are a lot of exciting things happening in the area before fall break — I’m looking forward to the Great Smoky Mountains Hot Air Balloon Festival in August and the Smoky Mountain Air Show in September — October is a great month to visit numerous destinations around the country.
Here are five fall break vacation ideas, all of which are accessible with just a quick, nonstop flight from Knoxville’s McGhee Tyson Airport (TYS):
Anywhere in Florida
- Did you know that TYS has nonstop flights to more than 10 cities in the Sunshine state? From Destin (on Allegiant) to Miami (on American Airlines), there are vacation cities galore, all just one flight away. And October is a great time to visit, with an average temperature high of only 84 degrees.
Phoenix

Boston

Denver
