Keeping Your New Baby Safe :: Owlet Baby Monitor {Giveaway}

One of my favorite parts of preparing for a new baby, whether it is my own or an expecting friend, is discovering all of the latest baby gear and gadgets. We just had our third child last month and leading up to the delivery, I had spent many third trimester sleepless nights researching and reading reviews on the newest must-haves. One of the newer items on the market is the Owlet Baby Monitor. Have you seen it? The little gadget is quite incredible!

The Owlet Baby Monitor is the first baby monitor of its kind that uses hospital technology called pulse oximetry to alert you if your baby stops breathing. The entire device fits into a tiny, snuggly baby sock that your little one wears to bed. The system is completely wireless and connects via bluetooth to a base station and Wi-Fi to your smartphone. The program has been available for iOS since its release last year and is now newly available for Android too!

The monitor and its accessories, including three different sized socks perfect for all foot sizes and for extended use past the newborn stage, come in a small box complete with simple instructions. Set up is explained step by step through the instruction booklet and the app on your smartphone.

While I had a little difficulty with the initial set up of the device, it was quickly resolved by rereading the booklet and being patient while the app and the device were able to sync. After following the sensor placement instructions closely, the proper sock was fitted and placed on the left foot with the sensor in the appropriate position for the sock size we chose for our child. Once set up is complete, the monitor is designed to send out both visual and audio alerts if your child stops breathing. The app allows you to check on your child’s oxygen level and heart rate. It will alert you for low oxygen and heart rate levels, if the baby is wiggling to prevent false readings or if there is a bad connection.

As parents, we often worry about our infants while sleeping at night, especially if they are not sleeping in the same room as us. As their motto “Up all night so you don’t have to be” suggests, this device is here to hopefully provide some relief and allow you to be comfortable with your child sleeping while you do and while sleeping out of your sight. Getting a good night’s rest is vital to you and your child’s well-being and this device is a great way to allow you to be able to relax enough to get that good sleep you need.

While the high-tech device may be considered a big purchase, it is very much worth the peace of mind it provides and is now available in monthly payments of only $22.00 to help ease any financial strain. If you’re interested in the device, perhaps today will be your lucky day as we are giving away a $50 gift card toward your own Owlet Baby Monitor. More information and FAQs can be found on their website here.

Kara
I’m Kara, wife and mom of 3. A Florida native, I relocated to Knoxville over a decade ago to pursue a master’s degree where I promptly fell in love with the endless supply of sweet tea, southern hospitality, and peach cobbler. Oh, and my husband! I’m a physician assistant by day, wife and mom by day and night. When I’m not caring for sick patients, I enjoy traveling as a family and spending time with friends at local events downtown. We had always called Knoxville home, but after returning from spending two years living abroad, our lives are forever changed. We left a piece of our hearts on an island out in the Pacific Ocean and took with us the desire to see more. If words could explain, I’d write a book, but until then, occasional blurbs and social media posts will do!
