I’m a little late in posting, but I want to give a special shoutout to the Karns Fire Department!
In August, my son Nolan turned two and they were so gracious to allow us to not only hang out at their new facility, but they also arranged for three different fire trucks to come out, gave us a private tour, and let us meet the entire team and captain who came to show us what a day in the life of a fireman is all about.
I invited a couple of close friends and we were there for about an hour or so. The team was very hands-on, educating us and demonstrating to everyone the ins and outs of what firemen do to keep us safe like wearing over 60-pound gear and being able to lift 40+ pounds of equipment.
While they technically don’t do “birthday parties,” we we able to schedule a fire station tour. The fire departments are open to help raise community awareness about fire safety and fire departments in general, so we were able to hang out at their facilities and it was absolutely magical, educational, and enlightening!
I got the kids some fireman-themed water guns I found from Walmart, and that added an extra special touch to an already great day. The kids (and adults too) had a blast being able to get in and on top of the trucks, touch the equipment, and ask questions. It was more than I could’ve hoped for – they went above and beyond and made us feel more than welcomed.
