I’m talking to you. Yes, you…the mom who’s part Wonder Woman, part permanently exhausted pigeon. You may have a full time job outside the home, you may stay home with your kids, or you may be some combination of the above. Regardless of where you land, if you weren’t yet aware, there are midterm elections coming up in November. The midterm elections are held near the midway point of a president’s four-year term where members of the U.S. House of Representatives and the United States Senate are elected. In addition, at this time, 36 state governors are elected.
You may be wondering why a fun, thoughtful place like Knoxville Moms Blog is getting political…
Here’s the rub: your voice matters. Your vote counts. It’s important to use this right as it’s written in the 19th Amendment.
“I don’t have time.” “I don’t like any of the candidates.” “I’m not even registered to vote.”
Politicians from local offices all the way up to federal positions write and enact laws that can affect your daily life. Education? Jobs? Healthcare? Public safety? These are all up for debate at some level by our elected officials.
If you like what you’re seeing and hearing on the news, vote to keep those folks in place. If not, educate yourself about other candidates and vote to get them into office.
“Ok, you’ve gotten me interested. But where do I start?”
Make sure you’re registered to vote:
In our beautiful state, you can visit www.govotetn.com to confirm whether you’re registered. Outside of Tennessee, visit www.rockthevote.org to check your status.
If you’re not registered to vote, get registered:
You can register online, by mail, or even with an app such as GoVoteTN.
Know your election calendar:

It’s important that those of us raising the next generation of leaders and world changers learn to speak up. It sets a great example for our children and from personal experience, I can say that it feels really empowering. Plus, you get a cute sticker!
