Have you found yourself looking for the perfect books for your little ones? You know the ones that aren’t too long, with a good lesson, and keep your child’s attention?
As a mom of two young boys, three and one year old, I think I found a pretty good list of books that my boys BOTH love.
Goodnight, Goodnight Construction Site
These two are by far my favorite. I love the rhythm of these books and how they are perfect for winding down for bed time. The artwork is also AMAZING, and you will definitely want these in the hardback edition.
Dazzling Diggers (Amazing Machines)
Flashing Fire Engines (Amazing Machines)
Terrific Trains (Amazing Machines)
Tough Trucks (Amazing Machines)
Tremendous Tractors (Amazing Machines)
Roaring Rockets (Amazing Machines)
Amazing Airplanes (Amazing Machines)
The great thing about this series of books is that they are sooo affordable. I think most are $3.50, so you don’t feel too badly when your one year old might tear out a page. Not that has happened at my house or anything.
We received our first Llama Llama book from the Dolly Parton Imagination Library. Do you have your kids signed up? If not, you definitely should as each of your kids will receive a book a month until they are five years old. It’s a wonderful program!
Where Do Diggers Sleep at Night?
We also own many dinosaur books that were in rotation (long books thanks to the grandparents!) that we finally laid to rest for a few weeks. You know the ones you have to paraphrase or you might be there for a whole hour?
We’ve also started some simple Thomas the Train books that are using the basics of reading (like the three letter words that rhyme, etc.) to help them learn to read.
I’ve always been a HUGE reader, and I do hope both my boys enjoy it as much as I do. There’s nothing better than getting lost in a good book, and I hope to share this same love with them.

We LOVE the llama llama books!!
Poor Peppy is terrified of Llama Llama Red Pajama… I think I read it with a little too much expression the first time and now I can’t even open the book without her eyes getting wide and her lip quivering! Lol.
We know another friend who’s daughter cried at the Llama Llama books because it was the “Mad at Mama” where Llama made a huge mess at the store. She was so upset about the mess!
Llama Llama books ROCK, end of story. And the “Amazing Machines” books sound right up my boys’ alley!
This is such a great list! I LOVED the Llama llama books when my kids were younger. I will have to check out your Pinterest page and spread the love. Great suggestions!
