For 75 years, Finland’s expectant mothers have been given a Baby Box by the state that serves as a starter kit for their new baby. It contains clothes, blankets, and other newborn necessities, and the Baby Box itself–which is lined with a mattress–can even be used as the child’s first bed. It is believed that these Baby Boxes have helped Finland achieve one of the world’s lowest infant mortality rates.
A few months ago, I wrote about cultural traditions around the world, and specifically mentioned the amazing Baby Box that Finland gives as a gift to all expectant mothers. The Baby Box Co. was kind enough to gift us a Classic Box to give away to one lucky reader, and I can’t even begin to tell you how astonishing this box is. Who doesn’t love a good baby shower, but moms-to-be, maybe we should all just start asking for one of these. The box is full of baby essentials–everything from pacifiers to a first aid kit and more. It’s like Christmas in a box for your baby. Not to mention, all items in the box are things that you will actually use. Remember that wipe warmer that you got as a gift, used two times and sold in the yard sale? Well, you won’t find one of those in this box. But you will find some mittens, socks, a newborn cap, swaddle blankets, washcloths… should I really go on? This box is a practical, thoughtful gift that any mom-to-be would be happy to receive.
The best and most innovative part of this wonderful gift is the box itself. It serves as a bassinet for your baby, a cozy place to lay your infant when you go to sleep at night or a portable option when they nap during the day. I know, I know, it sounds crazy to let your baby sleep in a box, but the mattress that comes in side is really quite comfortable (if I can judge by using it as a pillow–it’s safe to say I’m a bit too big to sleep on it). Sometimes we feel the need to be a bit excessive; I’ll be the first to admit I bought a rock ‘n play sleeper to keep next to my bed when I brought my newborn home. But you know what? I don’t even know what happened to it. She outgrew it, it took up space, and we got rid of it. But the Baby Box? It can be repurposed to SAVE SPACE. Just think of how special it will be to store all of your precious newborn mementos, baby book, first photos in the same box that you laid your sweet baby to sleep in. It’s truly something that you will keep forever.
The Baby Box Co. offers several different boxes, starting at “The Basic Box” with the just essentials to the fully loaded “The Everything But the Stork Box.” We will be giving away “The Classic Box” to one lucky winner. Enter this great giveaway by using the Rafflecopter below!
