Making Valentine’s Day Fun, At Home!

Making Valentine's Day Fun, At Home! Many of us will probably be spending Valentine’s Day at home this year, for various reasons. Whether you are trying to avoid the public, forgot to make a reservation, or can’t get a babysitter, you can still make your own fun (and/or romance) at home!

The obvious way to have a good Valentine’s this year is to buy secret chocolate and hide it from your kids. Nobody tell my family that when I bought their cards and chocolate last weekend, I bought myself some too and ate it in the car before I even got home. Whoops! Even more fun, buy it the day after on clearance. When I asked my husband what he thought would make a fun Valentine’s at home, he said buying your significant other a new gaming console. I’ll take that under advisement.

Now, onto the main question for this year: what to do for dinner and dessert? Here are some ideas you can do both easily and on the cheap, and where to find them locally!

Heart-Shaped Meatloaf

This is my plan for Valentine’s dinner this year! When I mentioned it to my sister, she said, “Only you would look at a cake pan and think, ‘I’m gonna put a meatloaf in that!'” But I think I saw it somewhere on the internet, so I know there must be other people out there who would love a heart-shaped meatloaf.

Aldi Heart Pizza

You really can’t go wrong with pizza, especially when it’s in the shape of a heart and from Aldi.

Heart Shaped Ravioli at Costco

This was our Valentine’s dinner a few years ago. Apparently it’s developed a bit of a cult following, so get it while it lasts!

Chocolate Covered Strawberries

Classic and sweet, making chocolate covered strawberries could be a fun activity for you and your honey, or for the whole family!

Bacon Roses

Two years ago, the team at WBIR made bacon roses and they looked delish! This could be something different to try! Instructions can be found here.

Heart Cake

You already have the heart pan for the meatloaf, you might as well bake a cake in it first!

Whatever you do for Valentine’s Day, don’t get caught up in making it perfect! If you do anything at all, just make sure it is easy, enjoyable, and that someone else volunteers to clean up after you make dinner. And if you have any other ideas to make it special, share them with us!
