Time for sunshine and berries!

There is nothing like the smell and taste of freshly picked produce. The process is fun, easy, a little dirty, and so rewarding when you fill a bucket of goodies. There are so many wonderful places in and around Knoxville where you can pick your own.

Most farms will open for the season soon. Strawberries are the beginning of the spring and summer crops. Next, blueberries and vegetables will come in. It’s a good idea to call the farms ahead of time to confirm their hours of operation and to ask if their crop is ready for picking. Many farms only take cash, so make sure you have some on hand. You may or may not need your own bucket but do bring a pair of shoes that you don’t mind getting a little muddy!

  1. There’s a little u-pick farm on Bluegrass Rd near Bluegrass Elementary School. I’ve never been, but drive by it almost everyday!

  2. Beauchene Berry Farm is the farm on Bluegrass Rd. that Jennifer Burnette above was talking about. They don’t have a website, but they do have a Facebook page to get updates on when their season will open. They have blueberries and blackberries for U-pick and other crops that they pick and sell.
