I am competitive by nature. Anytime I can compete, I do, which is why “I’m one of the boys.” That’s right, I am currently 3-0 in our fantasy football league and I love to rub it in everyone’s face. My childhood weekend memories revolve around UT football Saturdays, chili, and the sound of my dad’s recliner slamming down and “TOUCH DOWN!” echoing through the halls.
This is where my love for football began.
I love (fantasy) football and sports for more reasons than my competitive nature. It allows my husband and me to bond over something he enjoys. Let’s be honest ladies; Dancing with the Stars, The Masked Singer, and The Bachelorette aren’t our husbands’ first choice of television. Waking up on Sundays knowing our dinner will consist of pizza and wings while we check our fantasy lineup and bicker back and forth at whose QB better, is what our marriage is built on (kidding).
Fantasy Football hasn’t always been touchdowns and field goals. I sometimes receive backlash from others. I have had women ask me why I would want to waste my time on a “useless” game and others have told me that I’m just attention seeking. When I overhear a group of men talking football in public, I excitedly want to join in, but often receive looks of confusion and silence. Hear me out; I know Tom Brady threw for 369 yards and 5 touchdowns and that Joe Mixon rushed 25 times for 151 yards and two touchdowns.
So you aren’t into Fantasy Football? My advice to you is to find something you love and enjoy the heck out of it! If it’s playing Fantasy Football, be my friend. If it’s knowing every fact about the current Bachelorette lineup, you go girl! If it’s reading the latest Nicholas Sparks book, I’m jealous you have time to read.
