Freshen and Rejuvenate with a HydraFacial

As 40 quickly approached (and then passed me), I decided it was time to up my skincare game.  I’m sure many of you can relate. Maybe you didn’t take the best care of your skin in your 20’s and 30’s. When Knoxville Moms asked me to check out the HydraFacial at Meridiem DermSpa in Farragut and share my experience, I was excited to say the least! While I’ve had HydraFacials before, I never had one as amazing as I did at Meridiem.

As a new patient at Meridiem, my appointment started with a nurse practitioner. With deep roots in dermatology the goal is to not only make your experience a good one, but to also make it a healthy one! The nurse practitioner and I went over my medical history including my 40-something acne. She felt that I would be a good candidate for the HydraFacial and some of the other aesthetic services at Meridiem. Just what I wanted to hear! Even better, my evaluation will be kept on file. When I’m ready for my next appointment, I’ll be able to skip this portion and get down to skincare business!

After my talk with the nurse practitioner in a medical exam room, I made my way to the spa-like treatment room where I would have my HydraFacial. Walking into the treatment room was like being transported. I could feel myself starting to exhale and relax. Just what every busy mom needs! I slipped on my white robe and met my aesthetician, Julie. She talked with me about my skincare concerns and expectations. Then she explained how the HydraFacial can help me and so many others. It addresses fine lines and wrinkles, skin texture, discoloration and congested and oily skin, too. HydraFacials manage to do all this without being abrasive. (I have sensitive skin so that’s really important to me.) So, how does it all happen? The key is water.

The aesthetician uses a special device to spray water on your face. In some ways it’s similar to a pressure washer but far gentler. At the same time the water is spraying, the device is also sucking up everything the water is cleaning off. In other words, all those yucky dead skin cells and more! This will continue through the three steps of the HydraFacial. The cleanse and peel uncover a new layer of skin through gentle exfoliation. Next the debris (aka yucky stuff) is removed from your pores during the extract and hydrate step. Your skin is also nourished during this step with intense moisturizers. Finally, your skin is fused and protected with antioxidants and peptides to give you that amazing glow I mentioned.

I got all that and more during my HydraFacial at Meridiem. As I mentioned, this HydraFacial was off the charts in comparison to ones I’ve had in the past. Julie began with the HydraFacial Lymphatic drainage treatment. She used a suction device to massage and drain my lymph nodes. Our lymph nodes trap bacteria, viruses and foreign materials. Our bodies get rid of those things naturally and this process speeds the process along and prevents clogging. If you’re having a hard time visualizing Lymphatic Drainage, Julie worked on the outside while exciting stuff was happening on the inside. Lymphatic drainage can improve your circulation and detoxify, tone and firm your skin. She also used special red and blue LED lights to enhance my HydraFacial. I like to call them her magic wands! The blue LED lights target and disrupt the bacteria that causes acne. The blue light also improves the appearance of oily and congested skin.

The red LED lights are the perfect finishing touch because they help boost your body to produce more collagen. That leads to tighter, firmer and smoother skin. Just when I thought it couldn’t get any better, Julie added one more boost to my HydraFacial called the “Murad Retinol Booster.” It accelerates the skin’s surface renewal and also plumps the skin, thereby minimizing the look of wrinkles and more. While the retinol booster exfoliates and smooths, it stimulates rapid renewal while still being gentle on skin. Exactly what I wanted! There are more than 15 boosters to choose from depending on your areas of concern.

Even days later, I can still see the results of my HydraFacial. My skin is clear, fresh and still has that glow. If you’re still unsure, may I present exhibit B?
