Easy Easter Cupcakes

I love to bake, especially around holidays, and Easter is no exception. I try to make simple and easy designs that my son will love. So when I found him sneaking into the kitchen to try to snag one of these, I knew I was onto something.

I’ll walk you step by step through how I made each of these, and I hope it inspires you to create your own fun Easter cupcakes with your kiddos!

Easy Easter Cupcakes

Bird’s Nest Cupcakes

Tools you’ll need: Cupcakes, a frosting bag filled with white frosting with Wilton #1M tip, another frosting bag filled with brown frosting with Wilton #233 tip (grass tip), and candy eggs. I like these Cadbury mini dark chocolate eggs with a hard candy shell.

I used a Funfetti boxed cake mix for these and I always use the Wilton buttercream frosting recipe. It’s delicious and holds its shape really well when decorating with tips.

Step 1: Pipe a swirl of frosting onto the cupcake with the white frosting. This is meant to cover the entire cupcake.

Step 2: Create a circle with the brown frosting, it should look like strands, and if you go around three or four times to build up the frosting, it looks just like a birds nest!

Step 3: Add a few eggs on top and you’re all done!

Bunny Bottom Cupcakes

Tools You’ll Need: Cupcakes, a frosting bag filled with white frosting with Wilton #12 tip (large round), another frosting bag filled with green frosting with Wilton #233 tip (grass tip), another frosting bag filled with pink frosting with Wilton #3 tip (small round), and white candy pearls.

Step 1: Pipe a swirl of frosting onto the cupcake with the green frosting. This is meant to cover the entire cupcake and represent grass.

Step 2: Create a large dot in the center of the cupcake for the bunny’s bottom. Then create the two feet on one side by making a dot and then slowly extending it as you squeeze the bag. Then add another smaller dot on top of the first one for the bunny’s tail.

Step 3: Add pink dots on the bunny’s feet, and top the tail with the small white candy pearls to indicate fur.

Baby Chick Cupcakes

Tools You’ll Need: Cupcakes, a frosting bag filled with yellow frosting with Wilton #12 tip (large round), another frosting bag filled with orange frosting with Wilton #3 tip (small round), and another frosting bag filled with black frosting with Wilton #3 tip (small round).

Step 1: Create a  large dot in the center of the cupcake with the yellow frosting. This should cover most of the cupcake.

Step 2: Create a second, smaller dot with the yellow frosting on top of the first one. Pull the tip straight up as you finish to create a point on top.

Step 3: Create tiny black dots for the eyes, an orange dot for the beak, and six orange dots for the chick’s feet.

There you have it; three fun and easy Easter cupcakes to try at home with your littles. Let me know how it goes!

Haley McManigal
Hi there! I’m Haley, a middle-aged-momma to Lukas and Laney, and wife to Dan. I’ve lived in East Tennessee my whole life, and I couldn’t imagine being anywhere else. After moving all over Knox County and surrounding areas, my family has settled in Hardin Valley where we intend to stay at least until the kids graduate from high school. My son was born in 2017, changing my life forever, and my daughter completed our family in 2020. I work as an architect and project manager at a global design firm. I think it’s pretty cool that I get to meet with people from all over the world from my home office on a daily basis. I am happiest when I’m able to strike just the right balance between home and work life. But my family is my greatest treasure and my most fulfilling role in life so far is Mommy. My favorite things are reading, writing, cooking, exploring, and making things. I don’t have much free time these days but when I’m able to squeeze in a few of these activities it really pays off. I love being a part of Knoxville Moms and I cherish the opportunity to share this journey of motherhood here with you!
