When the clock strikes midnight on November 1st, I transform into Martha May Whovier from How the Grinch Stole Christmas. I put on my most obnoxious Christmas pajamas, light 13 sparkling cinnamon candles, and blast Mariah Carey’s All I Want for Christmas on repeat.
Hi my name is Kailey and I suffer from PCD, a not so rare disorder called Premature Christmas Decorating.
I have noticed through the years there isn’t much of an in between for the long-standing debate. You either decorate a month before Thanksgiving or you’re a strong day after Thanksgiving (or later) decorator, and there isn’t much middle ground. I have seen Facebook threads with long drawn out arguments about what is “right.”
Well I am here to settle the argument: NOVEMBER 1ST!
This has been one of my favorite parts of becoming an adult. I literally plan my decorating schedule around when my husband, and now little boy, will be out of the house. I plan to spend the whole day dancing and sprinkling my Christmas cheer all over our home. Don’t tell, but when we were looking to purchase a new home I was pre-planning Christmas tree placement, a very important aspect in one’s home. We chose a home with two big beautiful windows for TWO Christmas trees. One tree is completely dedicated to Disney Hallmark ornaments, and the other tree is my absolute favorite memories with my family. Some of the best advice I have ever been given: My grandmother told me to buy an ornament every adventure my husband and I went on, and what amazing advice that was. Our tree is now filled with ornaments from all over the world. Each ornament has a special memory or trip attached, and we always laugh at the ornaments we chose. Who doesn’t love a Christmas “Lob-stah” ornament from Boston?!
I think that’s why I love Christmas so much — the pure nostalgia from years past. If you suffer from PCD, I would love to hear from you. All of the Facebook posts and comments are very negative about us. We must unite and sprinkle the town with Christmas cheer! Now, now; before the pitchforks come out, I have a cornucopia and two pilgrims we bought from Plymouth, Massachusetts. They sit on our dining room table with Bumble, Yukon Cornelius, Clarice, Hermey, and Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer, and it’s a party!
