Company’s Coming: Making the Guest Room Ready for Holiday Visitors

It’s that time of year when we welcome friends and family from near and far for all kinds of gatherings! It’s such a fun and exciting season of football, festivals, Thanksgiving, Christmas and more. When company comes calling, there are a few extra touches that make your guests feel welcome.

These are a few of my favorites:

1. Make a comfortable bed.

Guest bedrooms can sit for a period of time before being used. Make sure you wash your sheets before guests arrive so they smell fresh. Add a few pillows for an extra cozy feel. Keep extra blankets readily available in case someone gets cold. Even if you have a blow up mattress, make it up nicely like a regular bed. It can also be backed against a couch so there is a place for your guest to sit up in bed.

2. Use a bedside table.

A table is a nice touch so guests have a place on which to set their things. Place a lamp for reading with some magazines and books nearby. An alarm clock and a small frame with the WIFI password are also helpful.

3. Create a spa like bathroom.

Place fresh towels out so that they can be easily found and have a nice soap and lotion on the counter. Little touches like these make your guest feel extra special!

4. Make a list of your favorite local places.

Out of town guest love to know what is fun to do locally. Keep your list with a map.

5. A few other thoughtful things include leaving bottled water in the room, fresh flowers and a mirror.

6. Leave room in the closet for the guest to hang their clothing and a spot for their suitcase.

It’s so exciting to have friends and family come to visit. With a little bit of planning, you can make them feel welcome and rested during their stay at your home. What is your favorite way to prepare for guests? We would love to hear your tips!
