Angela Floyd School for Dance and Music: Enroll Now!

Angela Floyd School for Dance and Music is celebrating its 17th anniversary in Farragut. School Director Angela Floyd said, “The school expanded to a second location after quickly outgrowing the school’s original West Knoxville location, which opened in 1997.” In August 2008, classes started at the second location, a new 5,000-square-foot building at 6732 Jubilee Center Way off of Callahan Road, next to Jubilee Banquet Facility.

Expanded class choices saves time for busy families. School director Floyd says, “Many of the parents choose the school because, in addition to having excellent teachers and programs, it enables parents to have one child in music lessons while another child is in dance classes.” After a recent expansion, both AFS facilities have five individual music rooms and two extra large dance studios, making it possible for parents to have two, three or even four students in different lessons at the same time.

The schools also offer many morning, evening and weekend classes to accommodate more students in convenient class times. AFS is the only dance studio in East Tennessee ranked in the “Top 50 in the U.S.” by “Dance Teacher” and “Dance Spirit” magazines. In addition to the recreational dance program starting at the age of 2-adults, dance classes are offered in Classical Ballet, Tap, Jazz, and Hip Hop. AFS is the home to the Angela Floyd Dance Company which includes the famous Kickline group known in the area as “Knoxville’s answer to the New York City Rockettes.”

The schools music program includes preschool music classes for ages 2-7 and offers private lessons starting at the age of 5 and up in piano, guitar, violin, viola, cello, bass, drums, voice lessons, and several other instruments in a variety of musical styles such as pop, jazz, rock, classical and contemporary. New this year AFS is offering a Children’s Choir Class and a Music Therapy Class. The main focus of the staff is helping students obtain the skills they need to enjoy music long after the lessons are over. Floyd says, “The mission of the school is to provide students of all ages with the skills they need to enjoy music and dance for their lifetime.”

Over 20 years ago, I moved to Knoxville and fell in love with the city that has now truly become my home. Shortly after moving here, I married my college sweetheart, and when not working we set out to travel as much as we could. After working as a financial manager for six years, I welcomed my first son in 2010 and began a journey as a stay-at-home mom. Two years later we added another baby boy to make us a family of four. In June 2016, we welcomed our third son. I founded Knoxville Moms in November 2013 which began my career as a work-from-home mom, and it grew to the expansion of Chattanooga Moms in March 2016. We welcomed our first girl in November 2017 making us a family of six and adding a little pink in our house. In June 2021, I became the co-owner of the Atlanta Mom website, and in March 2022 I became the owner of the Nashville Moms parenting website. When I'm not carpooling the kids to sports and activities, you can find me enjoying a cup of coffee, reading a good book, and dreaming about my toes in the sand. I enjoy meeting new people and enjoy connecting the moms of Knoxville, Chattanooga, Atlanta, and Nashville.
