Welcome to Oak Ridge! Located 25 miles north west of Knoxville, you will find this small but growing community. Oak Ridge is the perfect place for those who want small town living with more amenities. Businesses continue moving in, which means you do not have to leave the city to get what you need. There are parks and greenways aplenty for those who love nature. For all the foodies out there, Oak Ridge has quite the food scene. We have the essentials like Chick-fil-A and our very own fine dining scene at Fire and Salt. The schools pride themselves on their excellence. For those who are looking for more cultural experiences, you will not be disappointed. The city has its own playhouse as well as art center, and several museums highlighting the city’s involvement in World War II.
The city has a very unique history. It was created in 1942 to facilitate the Manhattan Project during WWII. It is therefore known as the “Secret City” or “Atomic City.” The work done at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Y-12 Security Complex, nuclear, scientific, and technology companies, continues to be relevant in Oak Ridge’s current economy.
