Fall is here and with its arrival, we welcome all the fun activities and events, cooler weather and a beautiful change of scenery in East Tennessee. With everyone’s busy schedule, I look for easy ways to incorporate the season change into our home.
Here are a few of my favorite ways to move into the new season ahead:

Bring nature inside.
As the days get shorter, we spend less time outside. I love to bring in hydrangeas from the yard, dry them and style in a big container for impact. Look for trimmings in your yard for easy styling. Ferns are another beautiful addition all year. Short on time? Create a focal point with big impact versus spreading small things all over. My kids love mini pumpkins and gourds. They always pick out several and make a big stack on our dining table. I add brass candlesticks and a dark taper, and it is always fun and festive.
Create a glow with candlelight.
Even over a dinner of takeout, adding candlelight always makes it better. Fill glass containers with mini pine cones or whole nuts and add a pillar candle for an easy statement. Take two different sized glass containers and style them on a console for a welcoming entry and easily change them up for winter. Candlelight always adds that extra magic.

Add in texture.
As the temperatures begin to change, we look for warmer and textural materials. Swap out a lighter throw for a knit or wool. Add in a velvet or boucle for more added texture.

Clean out tired containers and pots.
I do a quick round outside and swap out my tired summer containers with ornamental cabbages and violets or pansies that will take me through winter. Add a festive wreath to your door and a few pumpkins for now. It will be easy to swap out for Christmas decor (which comes faster every year!).
