For the month of August I had the opportunity to drive a 2018 Lexus NX 300. As KMB contributors we’re sometimes lucky enough to get perks like participating in the Lexus Driver Experience sponsored by Lexus of Knoxville, and I was so excited to be chosen for this! I want to share with you my favorite things about this amazing car.
First things first: this car is luxurious!
I’ve had the privilege of driving pretty nice cars, but this car is by far the most luxurious car I have ever driven. The other contributors already said it, and there is no better way to describe it: this car drives like butter! It glides over the road and maneuvers through traffic and curves so smoothly. It is really fun to drive, has great pickup to get you out of sticky situations quickly and is super easy to park.
There are three things about the safety features that I want to highlight: Blind Spot Monitor, Lane Departure Assist, and Adaptive Cruise Control.
My favorite is the Blind Spot Monitor. It has a little yellow image in both side mirrors that tells you if there is a car in your blind spot. This feature makes me a better driver, but I think it would make teen drivers safer. I have a teen driver and I wish her car had this feature, which basically eliminates the blind spot. The lane Departure Assist gently vibrates the steering wheel if you sway out of your lane. If you don’t correct yourself quickly, it corrects you gently back into your lane. So if you are sleepy or distracted, this will help keep you safe. The Adaptive Cruise Control is great, it actually maintains not only your speed but also the space between you and the car in front of you, even in stop-and-go traffic.
Comfort is something Lexus does better than any other car company.
The driver’s seat is so comfortable for long trips; it not only has heated seats but air-conditioned seats as well. This is helpful in reaching the perfect temperature when you get into a hot car and maintaining that temperature for the ride…ahem…hot flashes, anyone? This feature will be a must on my next car purchase. The back seat is roomy and comfortable; we easily sat five adults in the car for a girl’s night, and buckling in car seats was a breeze, as well.
Another thing I enjoyed was the easy-to-navigate touch pad remote — it is like a mouse on your laptop and is super easy in navigating all of the conveniences of the car. It is situated to the right of the driver in a very comfortable position and is easy to control without looking at it. The best thing is that you don’t even need to use it if you don’t want to. You can simply use the voice command to adjust the climate control, radio, navigation system, and even make phone calls. The Lexus Voice-Recognition is designed with the driver in mind to keep you focused on the road.
This car is so quiet, especially on the interstate when you have wind and road noise. It’s perfect for listening to the Sirius XM Radio or your favorite podcast, but it’s also perfect for hands-free phone conversations, where my friends didn’t even know I was driving as I was talking to them!
Finally, what I really hope all you moms get from this post: this car is big enough. I don’t think I would have considered this car as an option before this experience because it is a crossover and much smaller than my everyday car. But this car is actually the perfect size for my family of four! It is great on gas, easy to park, easy to drive, easy to get in and out of, and it easily fits all of our passions and activities in the cargo space. Bottom line, my next car will be a crossover, thanks to the Lexus NX 300!
