I love to do crafts! I especially love to do them with my kids. Sometimes I love the idea of doing them with the kids more than actually doing them, but you know what I mean. I try to keep things simple, so it’s easy to do a few minutes and stop if they aren’t interested, which happens a lot with these crazy boys.
Last year, Monkey #1 was in preK, and we got our first taste of school-age Valentine’s Day celebrations. I have to admit that I was much more excited than he was. We made these:
They were actually pretty easy to let him help with. I just cut the hearts out ahead of time, and wrote on them. Then I let him do the holes with a kid-safe hole punch, and put the pencil through. We had it going assembly-line style, and he loved it! Given that they were just teaching them to write their letters correctly, and I didn’t want to add to the sugar rush, the pencil was perfect!
We also tried a little thumb-print heart card, which we had a hard time with. I’m sure you could get it to work, but he was getting a bit frustrated with it, so we quickly gave up on it. Here’s the photo anyway:
Note: Brianna was a “special” friend for him, and the other reason we gave up was that he blushed and got embarrassed when we made this one. It was SO CUTE! One of those moments that make you realize your little ones are growing up!
This year, we’re going a little more elaborate. A few weeks ago, while waiting on one of our many medical appointments, I picked up a Parents’ Magazine, and saw the cutest idea of a mouse Valentine card. I found it online, and copied it with craft stuff I had lying around the house. The best part is all I had to buy was the Hershey Kisses!
His eyes are a little big, but he’s a TON of fun to make! Monkey #1 (Jeffery) just loved it! I would suggest using the craft wiggle eyes instead of the food ones I had on-hand, though. He’s a little bug-eyed!
Since I am getting started a bit earlier this year, I hope to make one of those ribbon wreaths for our front door too. We’ll see how it goes…

So cute!!! I just love that little mouse.
Isn’t he cute?!? I saw this, and just KNEW I was going to use it!
So cute! I’ve been looking for ideas. Thanks.
I agree with you on the I like the idea of it better than the doing it part 🙂
Oh yes! I always have these grand ideas of craft projects with them, and then they start playing bowling ball with the TP tubes I’ve been saving (true story). Oy.
