Time to Head to the Beach, Tybee Island! {Review}

As a child, I never went to the beach. So once I had children of my own, I knew I wanted them to experience the beach as much as possible. My almost four year old has been a total of four times, and now my almost two year old has been twice.

Living in Knoxville, we always looked to go to the closest and “drive-able” beach location. This means we usually visit the beaches of South Carolina–either Hilton Head or Kiawah Island.

This year we traveled to Tybee Island (outside of Savannah, GA) courtesy of Tybee Vacation Rentals. My family was super excited because we had never visited Georgia beaches.

Tybee Island Beach Condo

Tybee Vacation Rentals made our vacation super easy to plan! When renting a condo, we always try to get beachfront due to nap times, carrying a million items and not to mention kids. This year my oldest could walk everywhere so that was a major plus since he listens. We still had to carry my 22 month old, so this year I invested in a beach cart. I knew we could not keep lugging all this STUFF and that there had to be a better way. The beach cart was amazing, and I strongly recommend it!

Our condo (very well maintained and clean!) was right off the beach and on the third floor. Lucky for us it had an elevator so we literally would put my youngest in the stroller in the condo, step into the elevator, and then right on to the street. It was so nice not to actually haul the kids in the car for dinner. There were nights that if I had to put them in the car, we would have definitely stayed in. But since we could walk to dinner, stores, and ICE CREAM we did. The boys loved it and really were amazing for the trip.

Tybee Island BeachThe boys had a blast on the beach, and the waves and shoreline were just perfect for them. We had sunny weather the whole time and really couldn’t have asked for better weather.

Tybee Island LighthouseThe great thing about Tybee Island is not only the beach, but also the great activities for kids. We visited the Tybee Island Lighthouse, and my oldest climbed 178 stairs by himself. (Trust me, I had no idea whether he could do it or whether he’d be able to walk down, but he did!) He loved seeing from the top and the fact he climbed all the stairs without any help.

In addition to the lighthouse, you can also do a dolphin tour or visit the Tybee Island Marine Science Center. So, if you want an off beach day, Tybee definitely has you covered!

One night, we did actually pile into the car to eat at The Crab Shack. They had great food, and the boys loved feeding the alligators and playing on the “fake” alligator. They had no fear even though that alligator looked super real! We also had great food at Lighthouse Pizza and Sting Ray’s Seafood.

Overall, we had a great time on Tybee Island. The location is great and you can find great rentals through Tybee Vacation Rentals to fit your needs. Bonuses for being able to walk to get food and to the beach! Also it’s nice to have the option to do fun activities besides the beach if you need an off day.

So if you are looking for a beach vacay this year, be sure to check out Tybee Island!

Disclosure: I received three nights in exchange for this review but did purchase an additional two nights. All opinions and thoughts are my own.

Over 20 years ago, I moved to Knoxville and fell in love with the city that has now truly become my home. Shortly after moving here, I married my college sweetheart, and when not working we set out to travel as much as we could. After working as a financial manager for six years, I welcomed my first son in 2010 and began a journey as a stay-at-home mom. Two years later we added another baby boy to make us a family of four. In June 2016, we welcomed our third son. I founded Knoxville Moms in November 2013 which began my career as a work-from-home mom, and it grew to the expansion of Chattanooga Moms in March 2016. We welcomed our first girl in November 2017 making us a family of six and adding a little pink in our house. In June 2021, I became the co-owner of the Atlanta Mom website, and in March 2022 I became the owner of the Nashville Moms parenting website. When I'm not carpooling the kids to sports and activities, you can find me enjoying a cup of coffee, reading a good book, and dreaming about my toes in the sand. I enjoy meeting new people and enjoy connecting the moms of Knoxville, Chattanooga, Atlanta, and Nashville.
