This Isn’t How It Was Supposed to Be

This Isn't How It's Supposed to BEThis isn’t how it was supposed to be.

Just a couple months ago my biggest fear was the flu. With a late March due date, I hoped the flu was long gone, flowers were blooming and the sun was shining.

Fast forward to mid-March and we are confined to our homes, avoiding a virus that has made its way around the world with fury.

This isn’t how it was supposed to be.

As a pregnant woman, I am in the increased risk group. I am second guessing attending prenatal appointments, which I now have to attend alone to allow for social distancing in the office.

This isn’t how it was supposed to be.

The hospitals have new protocols, only one person is allowed in the room with you. We had to scratch the birth photographer we planned to capture your first moments. Family won’t be there. And siblings will wait until we are home to meet the newest member of our family.

This isn’t how it was supposed to be.

Grandparents, aunts and uncles, and close friends won’t get to hold your sweet, snuggly body until all of this calms down. Weeks or months will go by without any interaction beyond immediate family and doctor visits.

This isn’t how it was supposed to be.

We will make it. We will celebrate every bit of these babies that are joining our world during this pandemic. We will gather in the future when it’s safe and celebrate every day that was missed.

This isn’t how it was supposed to be, but we will persevere and love every ounce of you.
