The Myth of the Perfect Mom

The Myth of the Perfect MomEveryday I end the day thinking I should have done more.

I should have done more crafts with my child.

I should have worked on letters, words, and reading skills more.

I should have made sure they ate more veggies.

I should have played more.

As moms, we put so much pressure on ourselves. The “mom guilt” is a serious burden that all moms carry. But what is a perfect mom and how does one mom define it? Do these statements define the “perfect mom”?

I’m a perfect mom because I did extended breastfeeding.

I’m a perfect mom because I did three hours of Pinterest crafts with my child.

I’m a perfect mom because my children don’t eat any processed food.

I’m a perfect mom because my children go to daycare and get socialization and structure.

I’m a perfect mom because I stay home with my children.

I’m a perfect mom because my children watch no TV.

I’m a perfect mom because I use cloth diapers.

I’m a perfect mom because my children sleep through the night.

I’m a perfect mom because my children are signed up for every activity.

Maybe it’s the existence of social media and seeing what moms are up to ALL.DAY.LONG or in reality what they want you to see.

But you know what…there is no such thing as a perfect mom. Motherhood is messy and full of tears and laughter and many highs and lows. Your children don’t care about those above statements. All they care about is YOU!

The Perfect Mom 2You are a great mom because you kiss and hug your children good night.

You are a great mom because you make the boo-boos all better.

You are a great mom because you provide meals for your children.

You are a great mom because you are always there to support and encourage your children.

You are a great mom because you hope and dream for your children.

You are a great mom because you bring smiles and laughter to your children’s face.

You are a great mom because no one loves them like you do.

That’s right moms, NO ONE loves your children like you do and that above all is what matters most.

Over 20 years ago, I moved to Knoxville and fell in love with the city that has now truly become my home. Shortly after moving here, I married my college sweetheart, and when not working we set out to travel as much as we could. After working as a financial manager for six years, I welcomed my first son in 2010 and began a journey as a stay-at-home mom. Two years later we added another baby boy to make us a family of four. In June 2016, we welcomed our third son. I founded Knoxville Moms in November 2013 which began my career as a work-from-home mom, and it grew to the expansion of Chattanooga Moms in March 2016. We welcomed our first girl in November 2017 making us a family of six and adding a little pink in our house. In June 2021, I became the co-owner of the Atlanta Mom website, and in March 2022 I became the owner of the Nashville Moms parenting website. When I'm not carpooling the kids to sports and activities, you can find me enjoying a cup of coffee, reading a good book, and dreaming about my toes in the sand. I enjoy meeting new people and enjoy connecting the moms of Knoxville, Chattanooga, Atlanta, and Nashville.
