Small Classrooms and Academic Excellence at Berean Christian School

Berean Christian School (BCS) serves Pre K-12 students in a Christ-centered and biblical environment. From the time our students join the BCS community, they experience a nurturing atmosphere of learning and discovery in academics, athletics, fine arts, and service. Our teachers and staff use innovative methods to engage students and to build a community of learners.

With our academic program, BCS students meet or exceed benchmarks on standardized tests at all grade levels. Academic excellence involves the pursuit of an ever-improving learning environment where all students can demonstrate academic growth. BCS features a small classroom environment, averaging fewer than 20 students per class. This gives children an opportunity to experience more individual attention to their needs and learning styles. BCS also aligns its instruction to state benchmarks and national standards, all through a biblical worldview. In doing so, our students have the privilege of understanding the world in which they live from a meaningful and eternal perspective.

Berean also offers SOAR, a program for students with dyslexia and other learning differences. The SOAR program offers four levels of service for students K-12. The full SOAR program (level four) offers the only all-day, classroom experience for struggling dyslexic students in Knoxville. It is a school-within-a-school, and we have now expanded to take students 1st – 4th grades!

For all students (K-12), there is a pull out option, a specialized study hall and a learning center that is available. Our hope is to tailor the right amount of executive-functioning training, encouragement, accommodations, and technology for all students to learn in their best manner. As a result, SOAR is uniquely positioned to give these students confidence and success through education and encouragement. Let us know if we can serve you further through our SOAR program.

Athletics are another area important to our school culture. We understand that we are helping to raise up the next generation of young men and women who can impact their world for Christ. School sports provide a way for students to learn important team-building skills, as well as life lessons – including how to win with humility and lose with grace. Athletics also help students learn the importance of working together to achieve a goal. Check out http://www.bereanchristian.org/athletics/ to find out the opportunities Berean offers.

As a renewed commitment to the arts, BCS recently enhanced our Fine Arts Department with the introduction of The Studio, The Gallery and The Workshop.

The Studio provides private music and acting lessons right on campus; The Gallery creates opportunities for students to display their art in the community; and The Workshop offers hands-on classes in subjects such as photography, drama, and design. On top of all that, last year we kicked off our first annual musical, The Sound of Music, and will be continuing this tradition each year.

Over 20 years ago, I moved to Knoxville and fell in love with the city that has now truly become my home. Shortly after moving here, I married my college sweetheart, and when not working we set out to travel as much as we could. After working as a financial manager for six years, I welcomed my first son in 2010 and began a journey as a stay-at-home mom. Two years later we added another baby boy to make us a family of four. In June 2016, we welcomed our third son. I founded Knoxville Moms in November 2013 which began my career as a work-from-home mom, and it grew to the expansion of Chattanooga Moms in March 2016. We welcomed our first girl in November 2017 making us a family of six and adding a little pink in our house. In June 2021, I became the co-owner of the Atlanta Mom website, and in March 2022 I became the owner of the Nashville Moms parenting website. When I'm not carpooling the kids to sports and activities, you can find me enjoying a cup of coffee, reading a good book, and dreaming about my toes in the sand. I enjoy meeting new people and enjoy connecting the moms of Knoxville, Chattanooga, Atlanta, and Nashville.
