I had originally titled this post Rainy Day Fun, so hopefully it will actually make it rain. I don’t know about you, but it seems my neighborhood has been spared any rain this summer–minus a shower or two around bedtime. And the past few weeks have been miserably hot in our non-shaded backyard. That being said, we have spent most of our afternoons inside–out of the heat and occasional pop-up thunderstorm. So, here are 5 things we have been doing to beat the boredom.
1. Play-Doh-this has become a big hit in our house. The kids really enjoy it, especially F & C.
2. Painting rocks-S got a rock painting kit (really, it exists) from my mother-in-law, but you can find your own rocks in the backyard and paint them. She had lots of fun making them into ladybugs and just painting on the bright colors. The paints we used are washable, so if you want to put them outside without the rain washing away the paint, you’ll need to spray them with a clear coat.
3. Building forts-this is an activity all the kids can get involved in. We make forts with the couch cushions, the kitchen chairs, and even the kitchen table. And it is SO MUCH FUN!!!
4. Games-I reserve this for S while her siblings are napping. They aren’t quite old enough for board games. Some of her favorites are Candy Land and Hi Ho Cheerio. I also found a Disney World game at a consignment sale that we play and it reminds her of our trip in February.
5. Movie-when all else fails, turn on Frozen. Or the Aristocats. Or Cinderella. Those are our favorites.
And if you are lucky to get a nice, gentle rain with no thunder and lightening, go play outside!!
What are you doing inside this summer to beat the heat (or rain)? Give me some new ideas, please!!!
Great ideas, Katie!
Thanks, Jennifer!
