If you are looking for a sign to have a Fall Craft Girls’ Night, here it is! I love to take any opportunity to host people. It is even more fun when my friends come over for a night of yummy snacks, fun crafts, and some much needed friend time. If you want to take this opportunity too, I will share with you what we did.
Starting with the most important part of any gathering: FOOD!
To me, presentation of food is almost more important than the food itself. I also love a good theme, so of course my food had a fall theme and aesthetic.
The Menu
- A charcuterie board with various halloween and fall treats.
- A caramel apple bar with apples, caramel dip and toppings. Toppings were crushed peanuts, mini chocolate chips, butterfinger pieces, mini M&Ms, and white chocolate for drizzle.
- Tortilla chips with cheese and salsa (not so much on theme, but I know my friends like it).
- Make your own pizza bar with biscuit pizza crust.
You can’t have a craft night without the crafts, so we made a couple crafts. Here is what we made and how we made them:
1. Seasonal Faux Marshmallows
- Starting with foam dice found at Dollar Tree, paint them the color you would like.
- To add the “drizzle” effect on the top of the marshmallows, use hot glue and paint it.
- Add the face and whatever “toppings” to get the desired look.
2. Wooden Gnome
- Start with blank wooden cutouts from the Dollar Tree. You will need two witches’ hats, one ghost and one pumpkin.
- Take a napkin with a pattern you like and separate the backing from the printed part of the napkin, then mod podge it onto the pumpkin. This will be the gnome body (you can also just paint it).
- Paint the ghost white (or other beard color). This will be the gnome’s beard.
- Paint the witches’ hat. This will be the gnome’s hat.
- Attach the ghost to the pumpkin with about half of the ghost going beyond the top of the pumpkin.
- Sandwich the overhang part of the ghost in between the two witches’ hats.
- Put a wooden bead on for a nose.
3. Mini Charcuterie Board
- Start with a mini charcuterie board from Hobby Lobby. They are available in round and rectangle shapes (they are $2.49) before discount.
- Pick a napkin pattern you like.
- Remove the backing from the pattern part of the napkin.
- Mod podge the napkin to the board.
- Add any other kind of decorations you want.
- We made these more halloween themed so we added the extra ghosts we had to the top.
4. Pumpkin Latte (this is one of my favorites, but you can make this whatever style of beverage you like)
- Start with a mini pumpkin mug from Hobby Lobby (they are $3.49 before discount).
- Add hot glue drips around the top rim of the mug; when cooled, paint chocolate colored.
- Glue half a styrofoam ball or something similar to the top of the mug, flat side down.
- Roll out air dried clay into a long worm shape.
- You can also use lightweight spackle with a frosting bag and tip for this part.
- Wrap the clay around the styrofoam ball making it look like whipped cream.
- Decorate the top with whatever toppings you would like.
Other supplies needed
I happened to have a lot of these already on hand, but if you are not a crafter you will need these items:
- Hot glue guns and lots of hot glue sticks.
- Various colors of paint and various sizes of paint brushes.
- Things to decorate the tops of marshmallows (fake candy, spoons, ribbon, etc.).
- A table cloth or trays for a cleanable workspace.
Helpful tips
- Put Glad Press And Seal on trays to make food clean up very easy.
- Be realistic about how much you can get done; I had about four other crafts we didn’t get to.
- If you’re using biscuits for pizza dough — I used Pillsbury Grands — make sure to roll them out (you can also use English muffins).
- You can use cookie cutters to cut dough and cheese into fun shapes.
- Try fun new crafting techniques with friends; we tried the Mod Podge fire trick.
- Prepare for anything; our power went out toward the end of our craft night and we still had fun and crafted by flashlight.
