Fall Break On A Budget

Fall Break On A Budget

This is my daughter’s first fall break, and unfortunately, it’s going to have to be a budget fall break. This has been a big year for my family. We just recently purchased a house and are still in the process of moving everything over, so there is no large play fund left for fall break. But I can’t let my daughter down on her first fall break, so with a little creativity and planning, she can have her best fall break yet (also her only fall break yet) on a budget!

If you are like me and on a budget this fall break, here are some ideas to still have all the fun without all the money:

Take a drive to the Smokies

The nearby Great Smoky Mountain National Park is magical anytime of the year, but has an unearthly beauty during the fall. While some fall breaks may be outside the peak color display in mid October to late November, you still can’t beat a crisp fall in the Smokies.

At-home movie night

If you are like us, you already have paid subscriptions to multiple streaming platforms, and most if not all of them have Halloween or fall specials. With a little searching, you can find some not-so-scary options for children. Throw in some popcorn and some cookies, and it’s just like the theaters!

Do a little window shopping

There is just something about fall and Halloween décor. It’s just fun to look at! So take a leisurely stroll around your favorite store or two and check out all the seasonal décor. And if you are like me and you just have to take something home, thrift stores usually have a great seasonal selection, and the items are often much more unique!

Themed pumpkin activities

My daughter is a sucker for a good theme! Maybe you have pumpkin muffins, read a pumpkin book, do a pumpkin craft, and then culminate the activity with carving or painting your own pumpkin.

Take a nature walk

My daughter loves exploring with a purpose. Take a walk — anywhere really — and see what nuts, leaves, pinecones, and feathers you can find.

Enjoy free local events

Lots of organizations, churches, malls, schools, and more have free fall festivals or events. It’s the perfect way to enjoy the season on a budget!
