As many of you know, East Tennessee, North Carolina, Florida, and other parts of the Southeast United States are going through the aftermath of hurricanes Helene and Milton. Relief for these individuals and families is more important now than ever as they attempt to recover and rebuild after experiencing back-to-back hurricanes. If you are able and feel led to give your time or supplies, there several groups you can give to as mentioned in a previous article Hurricane Helene: How to Help TN and NC by Jordan Morgan.
In addition to the groups mentioned above, you can also check with local groups that are collecting supplies for hurricane relief.
Several churches and school buildings are being used as drop-off zones for supplies and you can be sure they are going directly to the individuals in your area. Requested donations vary by location, but you can expect the following items to be in high demand: first aid supplies, personal hygiene items, cleaning wipes, baby formula and food, kitty litter, new socks and underwear, laundry detergent, pet food, hand sanitizer, can openers, blankets and clean towels, and various cleaning supplies like trash bags, work gloves, and rakes.
Tennesseans have shown their volunteer spirit in helping their brothers and sisters in need.
There have been private citizens who have and continue to give their time and personal resources to help rescue people trapped by the storm damage and have responded to various needs without a second thought. We are beyond blessed to have such generous and loving people among us. We continue to send our love and prayers to those affected by the hurricanes and for those dedicating their time and energy to relief efforts.
We are thankful for the big name stars such as Dolly Parton (Dolly changed the words to her song “Jolene” to “Helene” during her announcement) and Morgan Wallen who have donated to their home state of Tennessee, as well as other celebrities who helped our state and surrounding states in critical need right now.
Some additional local groups accepting donations include but are not limited to: Dollywood, Food City, Texas Roadhouse Restaurants, Anakeesta, and Young-Williams Animal Center. More groups that might not be as familiar to you that are doing great work here domestically and internationally are Samaritan’s Purse, Eight Days of Hope, and Medic Corp. Please consider these groups when thinking about where you can volunteer or send funds to help out. These folks are doing amazing work rescuing people who are stranded, comforting those who have lost everything, administering first aid, and sending in water and food when roadways are impassible.
