Berean Christian School (BCS) serves K-12 students in a Christ-centered and biblical environment. From the time our students join the BCS community, they experience a nurturing atmosphere of learning and discovery in academics, athletics, fine arts, and service. Our teachers and staff use innovative methods to engage students and to build a community of learners.
With our academic program, BCS students meet or exceed benchmarks on standardized tests at all grade levels. Academic excellence involves the pursuit of an ever-improving learning environment where all students can demonstrate academic growth. BCS features a small classroom environment, averaging fewer than 20 students per class. This gives children an opportunity to experience more individual attention to their needs and learning styles. BCS also aligns its instruction to state benchmarks and national standards, all through a biblical worldview. In doing so, our students have the privilege of understanding the world in which they live from a meaningful and eternal perspective.
Berean also offers SOAR, a program for students with dyslexia and other learning differences. The SOAR program offers four levels of service for students K-12. The full SOAR program (level four) offers the only all-day, classroom experience for struggling dyslexic students in Knoxville. It is a school-within-a-school, and we have now expanded to take students 1st – 4th grades!
For all students (K-12), there is a pull out option, a specialized study hall and a learning center that is available. Our hope is to tailor the right amount of executive-functioning training, encouragement, accommodations, and technology for all students to learn in their best manner. As a result, SOAR is uniquely positioned to give these students confidence and success through education and encouragement. Let us know if we can serve you further through our SOAR program.
Athletics are another area important to our school culture. We understand that we are helping to raise up the next generation of young men and women who can impact their world for Christ. School sports provide a way for students to learn important team-building skills, as well as life lessons – including how to win with humility and lose with grace. Athletics also help students learn the importance of working together to achieve a goal. Check out http://www.bereanchristian.org/athletics/ to find out the opportunities Berean offers.
In addition to academics and athletics, community service is something on which we place a great deal of focus. We believe that it is important for our students to realize the level of impact they can have on their community by simply giving back. We strive to provide our students with a Christ-centered, biblically-integrated education, which equips them to impact their world for Christ, and we believe service should be part of that. Our Shine Brightly program was conceived to spark interest in our students to find more opportunities to serve God outside of school. Our aim is to “shine a light” on these exceptional students and the community members they are helping.
