Do you find it hard to keep your kids entertained or engaged during the winter months? With Christmas break quickly approaching, many families will be looking for some fun and learning activities for their children.
Have no fear as The Muse of Knoxville has you covered with their educational BUT FUN Winter Wonderlabs!
Join The Muse Knoxville for Winter Wonderlabs over Winter Break—a series of special activities planned with family fun in mind. See our website for specific labs each day!
Family Labs are parent/child hands-on science and engineering experiences. A parent and one or more children will team up to explore a specific science topic or tackle an engineering challenge together!
Adults and children work together, so each child needs to have an adult family member present. Fees apply for each adult and each child. All Family Labs are 60 minutes and cost $2 per person.
Some of the labs planned:
Float Your Boat
Learn about the basics of boat design and materials, and take the boat-building challenge. Whose prototype will support the most weight? How will you change your design? Practice the Engineering Design Process in this fun-filled lab! Age 5-adult.
Engineering Bridges
Learn about structures in this engineering challenge lab. Explore different bridge designs in the Knoxville area before designing and testing your own straw bridge. Age 8-adult, including teens and tweens!
Owl Pellet Dissection
Owl pellets contain the undigested parts of an owl’s diet. Learn what owls eat by picking apart a sterilized owl pellet and matching bones with skeletons of common owl prey. Age 4-adult.
Electronics 101 with littleBits
Learn the basics of electronic circuitry, including different types of input and output, using littleBits circuit kits! littleBits is the easiest way to prototype and learn with electronics. Snap modules together to invent anything! Age 5-adult.
Ocean Voyage
Come on an exciting ocean voyage to discover treasures of the deep. Search the oceans with us, and see the abundant life found under water. From plankton to whales, view various fish and mammals through the submersible porthole. Visit a coral reef to learn about the food chain and what marine life lives in the different depths of the ocean. Age 5-adult.
Transforming Energy
Explore science stations and short activities as a team and learn about different types of energy and how they can transform from one type to another. Experiment with solar energy, types of light bulbs, biofuels, and fuel cells! Materials provided by TNScore. Age 5-adult.
