Oak Ridge Art Classes For Kids, Teens, And Moms

Ready to immerse your little (or big) artist in some fun and enriching art classes? Head on over to Oak Ridge, where your budding artist can begin his or her own creative journey. From camps and group classes to intermediate level and beyond, you will be able to find what will best benefit your child’s creative growth, or something just for fun. We cannot forget about the moms. There are classes that are offered for adults, and some you can even take with your teens. As Pablo Picasso says, “Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up.”

Children’s Museum of Oak Ridge

Children’s Museum of Oak Ridge offers a wide variety of camps during the school breaks and summer break for kids grade K-5. All of the camps involve some art, and this summer there are camps that are art specific. Summer camp enrollment will begin in April.

Every Wednesday, the Museum puts on Crafty Wednesdays. Kids can come and use a variety of craft supplies to make something to take home. It is every Wednesday 1-4pm unless there is an event scheduled. It is included in paid admission or with a museum membership.

The Kid Creator

The Kid Creator studio is the space for your kid to grow his or her creativity. Owner Gigi Sliger advertises her studio as a creative art and music studio with an emphasis on building a community of love and support. There are art options for kids from as young as one year to 18 to participate in classes, workshops, and open studio time. In addition to art classes, Sliger offers piano lessons, yoga classes, parents’ night out, parties, and more. There is a small shop inside the studio where you can purchase art kits, and DIY activities for kids. 

Appalachian Arts and Craft Center

Just outside of Oak Ridge, the Appalachian Arts and Craft Center offers a variety of art classes for kids and adults. Some classes you could even take with your child! The age range for youth classes is dependent on the class. Some classes are from five years and up to 16 years and up. There are many more class options for middle school and high school age youth. You will have a rewarding class experience as most class instructors are often working art professionals w,ith great expertise in their field. Some current classes are candle making, raku clay firing, stain glass workshop, making pinch pots and flowers out of clay, and calligraphy. With their wide range of classes, you will be able to find something that interests you in your price range. Make sure to stop at their artist market where you can pick up a unique piece made by one of the art center members.  

Oak Ridge Art Center

The Oak Ridge Art Center does not offer youth classes. However, for the artistic mothers, or moms who are interested in learning a new hobby, the Art Center does offer a wide variety of art classes for adults. Classes typically run for eight weeks at a time. There are also workshops that are not as time consuming. You can find classes on fine art to mixed media year round. You can still immerse your children in the arts here by taking them to visit the Art Center’s gallery. There are also shows running year-round featuring local artists and beyond. Everyone is welcome at the Oak Ridge Art Center!
