Journey through time with Great Smoky Mountains Institute at Tremont during their Walker Valley History event, featuring Living History Tours led by knowledgeable guides. Throughout the day, visitors of all ages will be able to explore key historical sites while learning about the people who have called the Smokies home. It’s a day filled with discovery, nostalgia, and community spirit that shouldn’t be missed – and best of all, it’s free!

Living History Tours (11am-12pm, 2-3pm)
Step back in time with engaging Living History Tours! Tremont’s teacher naturalists will be your guides as you explore the rich history of Walker Valley. To participate, stop by the Tremont Visitors Center at 11am-12pm, or 2-3pm. The tour includes light hiking, so be sure to wear appropriate shoes.
A Home in Walker Valley Book Signing (11am-12:30pm)
Have a question about the history of this part of the Smokies? Tremont’s own Jeremy Lloyd literally wrote the book about Walker Valley, and Tremont is offering it on sale for one day only! Meet Jeremy, buy your copy of A Home in Walker Valley for just $6 (+tax), and get your book signed from 11:00 – 12:30!
Dig into the Tremont Archives (10am-4pm)
Delve deeper into Tremont’s fascinating history at Tremont’s History Table, which will be located just outside the visitor’s center. Explore intriguing items from Tremont’s archives, available for viewing from 10:00 – 4:00. Discover relics and artifacts that tell the story of the Smokies’ heritage – a must-see for history enthusiasts of all ages!
