Please meet at the Bluebird Barn at 9:30 AM. Be prepared to walk up to 2 miles on paved and natural surfaces. For more details about the route we will take\, read the Essential Eligibility Criteria. The program will include a short hike and a mix of structured and hands-on learning activities. \nThe cost for this program is $5.00 per participant. \nPlease come prepared with good walking shoes\, sunscreen\, and a water bottle. DESCRIPTION:Experience the quiet magic of a summer evening at Seven Islands as fireflies light up the night! This open viewing night offers a self-paced opportunity to observe the wonder of fireflies in their natural habitat. Learn about why fireflies flash\, how they communicate\, and why Seven Islands is such a special place to view them. Roaming rangers will help guide your experience and answer questions. Educational videos will be playing in the new classroom inside the Bluebird Barn\, and before it gets dark\, families can enjoy kid-friendly crafts\, games\, and story time in the gardens. \nThis program is recommended for all ages. Please check-in at the Bluebird Barn no earlier than 8:00 pm. Sunset will be around 9:00\, and the best firefly viewing will not start until it is completely dark. Be prepared to walk up to 1.5 miles on a paved surface\, or stop anywhere along the way. For more details\, read the Essential Eligibility Criteria. This is a self-paced\, drop-in style program\, NOT a ranger-led hike. Everyone will be required to leave the park by 11:00 PM. \nThe cost of this program is $15 for adults and $8 for kids ages 6-12. Kids under 6 are free. \nPlease come prepared with sturdy walking shoes\, chairs or blankets\, and a flashlight (preferably with a red filter to protect your night vision and the fireflies). you are also welcome to bring snacks (No alcoholic beverages.) Pets are not allowed on programs\, except service animals. Please avoid using bright flashlights or phone lights in the viewing area\, as they can disrupt firefly activity.

All activities are free! \nWe are very excited to announce the schedule with some new locations! \n2026 Schedule – 10am – 1pm \nJune 3 – Chilhowee Park with a Touch-A-Truck\, 401 Lakeside St.\nKid A’Riffic at Chilhowee Park will have a Touch-A-Truck area\, kazoo fun\, arts and crafts and there will be a food truck on site. \n*Free parking is available in the parking lot located at 401 Lakeside St.\n\nJune 10 – Covenant Health Park\, 500 E. Jackson Ave\nKid A’Riffic will take place in the concourse of Smokies Stadium. We will have foam fun as well as crafts and activities and access to their kids Fun Zone!\n*Free parking available in the South Jackson lot located next to the baseball stadium.\n\nJune 17– Baxter Ave Park\, Fire Station #3\, 204 E. Baxter Ave\nKid A’Riffic will take place on Stewart Street\, in Baxter Ave Park and at Fire Station #3. Enjoy tours of the fire station\, meet your local firefighters and learn about fire safety! Over 25 demonstrations\, on-site vendors and special events are lined up for this huge day at the Great Smoky Mountains Heritage Center.\nVisitors play loads of games that were popular choices for kids on the mountain homestead. Plus\, representatives from the Museum of the Cherokee will be on hand to share their cultural heritage.\nThe Junior Appalachian Musicians show off their musical skills as they play traditional mountain music. The musical program culminates with a performance in the 350-seat amphitheater.\nWith living history interpreters and demonstrators throughout the Heritage Center’s 13.5 acre museum site\, kids are the focus all day long. Don’t miss it!\nSuggested Donation: $20 per vehicle.
