Join Ranger Stephanie for a fun and educational 1.25 mile hike along our upland trail and explore Schumpert’s Pond from our observation platform! We’ll discuss what plants, trees, birds, insects and other wildlife are found in Seven Islands State Birding Park. We will learn about some edible and medicinal plants along the hike and what plants to stay away from. There are several exotic invasive plant species in the park that we manage using various methods, and these will be discussed along the hike. The importance of planting native plants and the role they play in an ecosystem will be explored. Ranger Stephanie will also discuss the history of the park and what the property was used for in the past.
This program is designed for homeschool families that have children from age 6-14. Parents and younger or older siblings are welcome to attend the hike as well. Please bring water, snacks, sunscreen, bug spray, and good walking shoes. Please plan on arriving at the Bluebird Barn by the main entrance parking lot by 9:00am. In the event of rain, the hike will be rescheduled for a later date.
