A Love Letter to Neighborhood Barre

Dear Neighborhood Barre,

I wanted to take a moment to make official what others have known for a while: I love you.

I love that you are a workout that makes me feel not only healthy, but strong. Class is hard enough that I’m constantly challenging myself and my body, but is easy enough that I believe anyone can do it.

Thank you for helping me towards my goal of achieving Michelle Obama’s enviable arms, and for making me feel comfortable in my skinny jeans and leggings.

The multiple locations (I’m counting down to the third one opening!) and range of class times, make fitting in a session easy with my busy mom schedule. I’m able to drive to you, get a full body work out in, and get home in less than an hour and a half.

You give me some much needed “me” time, in a small enough window that I can fit it in almost daily.

Look, I know I’m not the only one in love with you. When I look around class, I see college students, moms, moms-to-be, brides-to-be, grandmothers and more. You appeal to all shapes, sizes and fitness levels. Despite being a group class, you still manage to offer individual attention to each of us, as instructors correct our form or offer adjustments that can be made for our different abilities and body types. Thank you for celebrating each of us members as we hit milestones – I’m excited for the day I’ll get to hold the stars announcing I’ve attended 100, 250 or even 500 classes.

And, let’s be honest – as I quickly approach the next decade of my life, I’m not exactly as flexible as I used to be. I’m slowly seeing some flexibility returning, and each extra inch feels like a major win.

Lastly, you are fun to be around!

Free class days, specialty pop-up classes and events where you encourage me to bring my husband, all make it a little less work. Your Facebook and Instagram feeds keep me laughing as well. Your challenges inspire me. Not only do you give me a goal to complete, but I’m also rewarded with amazing deals (I scored 20% off a 50 class pass for completing the summer challenge!)

I want to add an extra special thank you to the instructor who didn’t laugh at me — but instead offered a hug — when I teared up telling her how much NB means to me in this season of my life. The community I’ve found is one of the best perks.

Neighborhood Barre, I think we’ve got a great thing going, and I can’t wait to see our relationship continue!

  1. 100% agreed. LOVE Neighborhood Barre and the staff. Katy is incredibly kind and the instructors have been very helpful when I’ve needed modifications. I recommend nb to everyone!
